Elder Jackie

Dear church family,

Please see the following email that was sent out to the Ford congregation yesterday regarding Elder Jackie Baber-Bey. Elder Jackie was an elder and a dearly loved matriarch at the Ford campus, and was also a beloved member at the Square campus for decades. We join together as a full Madison family in thanking God for Elder Jackie’s life and legacy, and also in grieving her loss with heavy hearts.

As a part of worship this morning, the Ford campus shared this video of an interview with Elder Jackie from 2018. This interview takes place around minute 5 of their worship service from this morning, which you can access here. Please take a moment to watch this video and to remember the lessons Elder Jackie has taught all of us about the joy of serving our faithful God.

In Christ who carries us,
Pastor Darrell

Good Evening Beloved Ford Family,

It is with shock and grief that we are sharing the news that a Madison matriarch, Elder Jackie Baber-Bey, and her 5 year old Great Grandson, Emarion, have died in a house fire at her home on Sheldon street earlier this morning.

Elder Jackie has been a faithful member of the Madison Family since the early 80s and has been with Ford since its inception. She is pillar of our neighborhood and the local community. Elder Jackie guided the Ford through many decisions large and small and one of the first leaders to receive a vision from God of a thriving 415 Franklin.

She has been a beacon of hope to so many. Her steadfast trust in the Lord has been an encouragement to us all. She is an example to us of what grieving with hope looks like, as just a little over a year ago, her daughter and granddaughter were tragically murdered.

She held tight to I Thessalonians 4:13: “We grieve but not in the same way as those who have no hope.”

We will cling to this truth as we continue to process this news.

Please be in prayer for Elder Jackie’s family as they navigate next steps in the midst of a pandemic. As more information becomes available regarding funeral arrangements, we will keep you informed. In the meantime, if you have photos or videos of Elder Jackie, past or present, please share them with our Pastoral Care Coordinator, Ann Webster, so that we might be able to give them to the family.

Elder Jackie cared for and led compassionately with fervent commitment to see Jesus Christ be glorified in all things and in all events and in all people. Please join us in prayer as we declare Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength.”

As you process this news, know that we are praying for you Ford family.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Brad & Christy
