The Pittsburgh Project

Each summer, our students are blessed to go on a mission trip to The Pittsburgh Project for five days (7th-8th grade) or seven days (9th-12th grade). They offer a service camp that empowers teens to perform home repairs for low income and elderly families. We join God in the work He is doing in Pittsburgh on behalf of the poor, elderly, widows and disadvantaged homeowners there. Each summer over 3,000 teens are invited to The Pittsburgh Project to discover Pittsburgh as they work to transform neighborhoods, repairing one house at a time.

This is an exciting week where our teens learn about serving God’s people and restoring faith in the potential and power of youth. During the day they work on homes and at night they will have a variety of fun activities including meeting new people, worshipping together, hearing renowned speaker Saleem Ghubril deliver God’s word, and of course playing in the game room. We also enjoy a (supervised) night out on the town where we see the sights in the city of Pittsburgh.

We spend the first half of the summer preparing to serve through our summer Bible study. When we return, we continue on by asking the big questions “What’s next? How do we love our neighbors here in Grand Rapids?” After the trip, we spend time working with Grand Rapids Area Service Project (GRASP) to serve the neighbors in our own back yard. Check out the photos from this year’s trip!
