Nursery

Imagine you are an infant at Madison Square Church's Nursery. What would your Sunday morning be like?

First, you could relax, knowing your nursery supervisor knows your name and your parents have a pager, similar to the light-up, vibrating pagers some restaurants use. Your senses are calmed by soft praise and worship music and the prayers of the supervisor. Screened volunteers ensure there are enough people to take care of you, play with you and feed you Cheerios, if your parents agree. Age appropriate books and toys entertain you, and before you know it, a familiar voice is calling your name, and there is your mom or dad returning the pager and tag to pick you up.

Now, how would your morning go as a toddler?

Well, check in is similar to when you were an infant, but you go to a bigger room with more toys and a table. Worship videos featuring children play on the television while you play with the kitchen, puzzles, blocks, crayons, books or bubbles. When you hear the clean up song, you hurry to help because you know what comes next: Snack! After prayer and animal crackers, it's time for the story. Themes such as 'God is Good' and Bible stories are repeated for a month to please your 'tell me again' nature. A simple craft reminds you of the story and helps you tell your parents what you've learned.

What happens when you turn three?

You start off in the toddler room, but then get called to the threes' room where you can play, have a snack and listen to a Bible story before you do your 'bigger kid' craft. You take home a copy of your story to read with your family at home.

"And he [Jesus] took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them."
